UGI has committed to making our neighborhood a greener place with the gift of shade trees. Together, we are committed to making our city a safer, greener and cleaner place to live. As a part of our community, UGI wants to help too. Through quality of life improvements, such as planting shade trees, we will all breathe more easily and have a more enjoyable walk.

Walk or drive down any of our streets and you will find numerous opportunities to plant shade trees: empty tree wells, long stretches of hot sidewalk, yards with scorched, brown grass.

Did you know that a single shade tree can prevent 3440 gallons of water from entering our city's combined sewer system each year? In addition, trees provide shade, reduce heating and cooling costs, improve air quality, reduce noise and increase property values.

Recently, the Lancaster County Conservancy with our neighbor Kristen Thomas, PA Master Naturalist candidate, set out to take an inventory of our shade trees.  The Lancaster County Conservancy is tasked with increasing Lancaster City's tree canopy from 28% to 40%.

Once we've identified potential locations to plant beautiful shade trees, we will ask our neighbors to plant a tree in front of their home. Often, the cost of planting a shade tree is a concern. Fortunately, UGI joined us at the perfect time. UGI's partnership with Neighbors United and the Lancaster City Alliance provides the necessary funding to follow through with our commitment to make Lancaster City a greener place.
